How FIFO reports are calculated
First-in-first-out (FIFO) inventory reporting is based on the principle that you have an inventory of a product, and each item of your inventory has an associated price (how much that item cost you). When you sell an inventory item, you use the earliest unsold inventory item to calculate the increase or decrease in value.
CryptFolio provides a FIFO report to help you complete end-of-year tax returns for countries and situations where you are treating cryptocurrency as inventory. The FIFO report for a particular currency can be accessed through your Inventory reports, and is broken up into three sections.

Is there a risk when sharing xpub keys?
For ease-of-use, CryptFolio supports tracking xpub (extended public key) addresses, which are long strings starting with "xpub". These keys allow CryptFolio to track all of your addresses, without you having to export and import them manually into the platform.
However, please be aware that providing your third party to any third party (including CryptFolio) can introduce additional risks.
Theoretically, by sharing your extended public key (xpub), the recipient can obtain all of your current – and future – wallet public keys and addresses, and identify and view all of your historical transactions. This can have privacy implications, if you are
-
How does portfolio sharing work?
By default, all portfolios are private, and cannot be shared with anyone.
When you mark your portfolio as public:
- Anyone with the public link will be able to view the charts in your portfolio. If you do not want others to see the chart, you should not make the chart public.
- This portfolio view is read-only; users cannot modify the contents, type, indicators, or layout of the charts, and cannot add new charts, or delete existing charts.
- Users can not force charts or accounts to update. They will continue to update in the background as normal.

How does CryptFolio add new exchanges?
We want to add support for as many exchanges as we can to CryptFolio, with priority on exchanges that are in the highest demand, or that trade assets not supported by other exchanges.
In order to integrate an exchange into CryptFolio, the requirements are:
- The exchange must have an API to fetch the last trade for an exchange pair, and its 24 hour trading volume.
- The exchange should have an API to list all of the supported currencies and exchange pairs.
- The exchange should have a single API to list ALL supported exchange pairs and their last trades and 24

Supported transaction types
CryptFolio currently supports the following transaction types:
- Purchase: The initial purchase of a currency, which can be through exchange or mining, and is considered an inventory purchase.
- Mining: The initial acquisition of currency through mining, and is considered an inventory purchase.
- Airdrop: Currency obtained through airdrops or currency forks, such as Bitcoin Cash and Bitcoin Gold, and is considered an inventory purchase.
- Sale: The sale of a cryptocurrency, which can be through exchange of a cryptocurrency (for another cryptocurrency or fiat currency) or purchasing a good or service, and is considered an inventory sale. This is considered a taxable event.
-
How does CryptFolio support accounts without transactions?
For each account, CryptFolio maintains up to three collections of data:
- Balances, the most recent currency values for the account;
- Transactions, distinct currency events that can construct the history of an account; and
- Histories, historical snapshots of currency values over time.
CryptFolio is designed to work with accounts that can provide both balances and transactions. When generating your portfolio charts or tax reports, we will use these two collections together to construct the chart or report data.
Automatic wallets
For some of our supported wallet types, the third party API cannot return transactions (such as Kiwi-Coin and NiceHash).

How does CryptFolio add new wallets?
We want to add support for as many wallet services (e.g. exchange wallets, mining pools, and other online wallets) as we can to CryptFolio, with priority on account types that are in the highest demand. In order to integrate a wallet type into CryptFolio, the requirements are: The wallet service must have an API to list the current balances for a given user. The API must be read-only, either by design or allowing a user to create an API key that is read-only; it must not be possible for an API key to perform an exchange, trade or withdrawal. The

How a composite rate is calculated
When CryptFolio needs to convert one currency value to another on a given date – for example, when calculating your historical values, or your inventory reports – there are many different techniques that the rate can be calculated or selected.
Existing valuation
If a transaction has a valuation defined manually, then that value in that valuation currency will be used (and converted through a composite rate if necessary). Otherwise, the value is calculated using a composite rate, as defined below.
What pairs are used?
By default, we use the following priority, to calculate a composite rate for any two given

Balance Composition chart
This line chart displays the historical balances for a single currency in your portfolio, for a given period, for each of your accounts. The chart can be stacked or 100% stacked for a different perspective. If you are looking for a chart displaying the sum balances for each of the currencies in your portfolio, rather than a single currency, consider the Balances History chart. If you are rather looking for the latest account balances that make up this currency, consider the Account Balances table.

Portfolio Values table
This table displays the latest balances for each currency in your portfolio, and the value of those balances in a particular currency. This includes all currencies that have a non-zero balance in your portfolio – not just your reporting currencies.
For each account, address and offset in your portfolio, the balances, history and transactions are summed up for each currency into a balance for that currency. The value of that balance is then calculated for right now, and for one week ago. This weekly change of the value is also included.
If you are looking for a table that just

How inventory is calculated
The Inventory report displays a list of all of the transactions used in your other inventory reports (such as FIFO) in chronological order. This is so you can review your historical transactions and their values, and check that everything has been calculated appropriately.
Currently CryptFolio only supports a single inventory method (FIFO), but in the future we will support other inventory calculation methods. From the Inventory report you can access your Balances report or the FIFO report for your portfolio.
Accessing your Inventory report
You access your inventory report through your balances report.
