A reporting currency is a specific currency that you are interested in. Reporting currencies differ from the other 2400+ currencies supported by CryptFolio in the following ways:

• These are the currencies used to generate historical chart data for your portfolio.
• These currencies are displayed in the top ticker area of your portfolio (desktop/mobile only).
  
• These currencies are used for exchange rate and portfolio value notifications.
• These currencies can be used as parameters for your charts.
• These currencies can be used for defining transaction valuations.
• These currencies will always be displayed in your Balances reports and Inventory reports.
• They will always be requested when calculating active currencies for limited exchange APIs (e.g. Binance, Bitfinex)

Each portfolio must have at least one reporting currency, but each portfolio can be configured with different reporting currencies.

Changing your reporting currencies

To change your reporting currencies, first visit your list of Portfolios.

Here, you can select the button to Edit a specific portfolio.

The list of available reporting currencies is displayed and can be updated in this form.

For example, you can use an exchange to trade your Bitcoin (BTC) for Litecoin (LTC), or vice versa. On some exchanges, you can exchange cryptocurrency for fiat currencies; for example, trading your US dollars (USD) for Bitcoin (BTC).

Often you will be restricted to opening a single account on each exchange. Most exchanges will provide you with at least one wallet for each cryptocurrency that you want to use on the exchange.

There are dozens of exchanges, each with their own website, interface, regulations and availability. Using CryptFolio, you can manage a wide range of exchange accounts – check out CryptFolio's list of supported exchanges.

You can add an Exchange wallet account to your portfolio by clicking on the Exchange button when configuring it.

We automatically pick up most new currencies as soon as they are supported by one of the exchanges tracked by CryptFolio.

For a currency to be listed, the requirements are:

• It must have a currency code (e.g. BTC).

For a currency to have an exchange rate, it must also meet these requirements:

• There must be at least one Exchange, that provides a ticker pair for that currency (e.g. BTC/USD), and has a public API for the latest ticker.
• Ideally, the Exchange will also have a public API to list the historical ticker rates for that pair.
• For most exchanges, CryptFolio automatically captures new currencies as they are added.

For a currency to support addresses, it must also meet these requirements:

• There must be at least one Explorer for that currency, with a public API to retrieve the balance of an address.
• Ideally, the Explorer will also have a public API to list all transactions associated with an address.
• For example, a port of Abe is often sufficient.

Using external APIs, you can develop your own web services to expose your financial data, without needing to provide CryptFolio with any of your own credentials.

For example, you could specify an external API "https://example.com/my_btc_balance", which returns the number "1.0" - signifying that you want to add 1.0 BTC to your portfolio.

The technical specifications for the range of supported External API formats is now available.

You can add an External API account to your portfolio by clicking on the External API button when configuring it.

Addresses can be generated for free with your wallet software, and there is no practical limit to the number of addresses that you can control.

Often different currencies will differentiate their addresses with a different leading character, for example:
